Songs in Dutch - Reviews

  • Marco Borsato
    De Waarheid

Marco is probably the most popular Dutch artist in the Netherlands at this very moment. His cd De Waarheid was one of the best sold records ever.
Marco Borsato started his professional singing career after winning a national song contest, with an imitation of Eros Ramazotti. As soon as he started singing in Dutch instead of Italian (he is in fact of Italian origin) he started being very successful.
His lyrics are in fact considered quite good and his music is very professionally produced, combining the rough, but rhythmic sound of Dutch language with a more Italian-like passion.

  • Zangeres Zonder Naam
    Haar Successen

She died quite quite recently, this 'lady singer without name', who was a very typical performer of what could be described as 'Amsterdam folk', or perhaps rather 'Dutch sentimental'. Her songs have simple, easy to understand lyrics, mostly telling very sad stories of children missing their mothers, soldiers missing their homes and other heartbreaking themes. The music often sounds like a mix between German schlagers and Italian opera.
Already long before she died, she was recognized as one of the greatest in this genre.
This cd contains her 'greatest hits'.

  • Various Artists
    Nederlandstalige Top 100

Some of the 'greatest hits in Dutch'. It shows quite a mix: rock, 'chansons', 'Dutch sentimental', musical songs, etcetera, etcetera. Some songs are in dialect, or at least with a regional accent, so you should have a quite advanced understanding of the Dutch language to understand all of it.
